The Taste of Newport has contributed over $172,000 to local charities

The host organization of the Taste of Newport, The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, is a dynamic group comprised of local businesses and residents. It is a self-funded organization, supported by membership investments and special events, whose mission is “to promote economic opportunity through business and community leadership and enhance the social and civic environment of Newport Beach.” A pillar of support for the community, the chamber serves as the “Voice of Business” within the area. We promote legislation that assists business to operate in a healthy environment for the betterment of the community, bolstering our strong belief that healthy local businesses generate income to the city through sales and property taxes. These taxes help pay for crucial services for businesses and residents alike, including police, fire, lifeguard, harbor management and trash collection services. As “THE Business and Community Leader”, the Chamber strongly supports a healthy business atmosphere to assist in supporting all of our local benefits.

The Taste of Newport is a three-day event, celebrating its 21st anniversary this September, showcasing unique local dining opportunities and bringing a signature event to our community enjoyed by some 60,000 people. It represents a successful joint effort of restaurants, local businesses, sponsors, residents, tourists and city agencies in creating another way to celebrate our unique lifestyle enjoyed in Newport Beach.

The success of this community-wide event has allowed the Chamber to contribute over $172,000 over the past 20 years to the following local organizations through the Taste of Newport Grant Program.

The funding cycle for these grants begins with the receipt of grant proposals from July 1, 2009 through October 17, 2009 (postmarked), followed by a review period, with actual funding of proposals in December, 2009. Annual funding grants allow the Chamber to respond to a broad spectrum of community needs and to partner with nonprofit organizations addressing those needs. As expected, each year the Chamber receives more requests that it can fund. For this reason, the Chamber has established procedures that allow it to use its resources as wisely as possible. Receiving and reviewing grant requests at a predetermined time each year provides the framework for a thorough and thoughtful grantmaking process.
