The Taste of Newport appeals to all your senses, not just your taste buds! Your ears will be in for a treat as some of the biggest names in entertainment jam on the Taste of Newport Sound Stage. And best of all, live entertainment will be featured continuously throughout the weekend and is included with your admission! While you're enjoying some of the best food around, we'll keep the finger-snappin', toe-tappin', foot-stompin tunes going all weekend.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 18, 2011 will feature ABBA: THE CONCERT and TAYLOR DAYNE.

Abba: the concert

Featuring original members of the band, and with 5 consecutive USA tours from 2002-2006 and 2009 with sold-out shows at teh famous Hollywood Bowl (15,000 epople), "THE CONCERT - ABBA THE CONCERT a Tribute to ABBA", featuring Waterloo the band, was formed in 1996 and quickly became known for its fantastic ABBA-sound and the stunning live "ABBA-esque" performance. The audience and press all agreed - "this is the closest to ABBA you'll ever get."

The show has had many successful US and International tours, including 5 consecutive USA-tours 2002-2006 and 2009 with sold-out shows at the famous Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (15,000 people) and at Highland Park in Chicago (20,000 people). Additionally...

In total, the group has performed in more than 20 countries around the world and has done more than 1,000 shows. During these tours the show has always consisted of two ORIGINAL MEMBERS of the original ABBA rhythm section. These fantastic players have consisted of saxophone players Johan Stengård and Ulf Andersson, legendary bass players Mike Watson and Rutger Gunnarsson, guitarists Mats Ronander, Lasse Wellander and Janne Schaffer, drummers Ola Brunkert and Roger Palm.

Dance-pop diva Taylor Dayne had a remarkably quick ascent to stardom in the late '80s, sailing into the Top Ten with her first single, "Tell It to My Heart." Dayne began singing professionally after graduating from high school. Once Dayne finished college, she began singing solo. Her first effort was a dance interpretation of the ballad "Tell It to My Heart"; her version led to a contract with Arista Records, who released the song in the fall of 1987. It soon became a hit, propelling her to stardom.

Taylor Dayne's first album, also titled Tell It to My Heart and released in early 1988, was a continuation of her dance-pop formula: no matter if the song was an up-tempo number or a ballad, she belted out her vocals over the carefully constructed synthesized backing tracks

Overall, she has seventeen individual Top Tens on Billboard charts including, most recently, the 2008 song "Beautiful", which reached the top spot in Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play. Dayne's career peaked between between September 1988 and July 1990, when she had seven songs featured in the Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 hits , including "Love Will Lead You Back", which reached the top spot. She has also topped the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart three times.

Signed to Arista Records, her first song to crack the top ten was the dance-pop hit "Tell It to My Heart" in 1987. The song was an instant smash worldwide, peaking in the top five of most major markets worldwide, and achieving a peak of number one in many countries, including Germany. The hit songs that followed included "Prove Your Love", "I'll Always Love You", "Don't Rush Me", "With Every Beat of My Heart", "Love Will Lead You Back", "I'll Be Your Shelter", "Heart of Stone", "Send Me a Lover", "Naked Without You", and "Whatever You Want".

In the United States, she achieved three gold singles, with "Tell It to My Heart", "I'll Always Love You", and "Love Will Lead You Back". "I'll Always Love You", a change-of-pace ballad compared to Dayne's earlier releases, was her breakout hit on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1988 and paved the way for future uptempo dance tracks such as "Don't Rush Me" and "With Every Beat Of My Heart" to gain acceptance at Adult Contemporary radio.
In 1990, "Love Will Lead You Back", a Diane Warren composition, peaked at #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. In 1993, she sang a cover of Barry White' 1974 hit Can't Get Enough of Your Love. The song reached #2 in the Aria Charts in Australia.

Dayne recently released a new single called "Floor on Fire" in June 2011.

Keyboardist and recording artist Lao Tizer captivates audiences of all ages and musical tastes. Lao has been proclaimed "an independent artist with all the right moves" and "a torchbearer for the new generation of contemporary jazz."  He is a "Best New Jazz Artist" nominee; a Yamaha-endorsed pianist and keyboardist; has appeared at premier venues including Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland, Pier 39 - Fisherman's Wharf San Francisco; and he and his group TIZER (2011 "Jazz Group of the Year" nominee) have graced the stage at renowned events worldwide alongside artists including:  Isaac Hayes, Boney James, Zappa Plays Zappa, Wayne Shorter, George Benson, The Commodores, Robin Thicke, The Rippingtons, Bruce Hornsby, Jethro Tull, and Spyro Gyra. Lao's recordings have sold over 90,000 copies, charted and received acclaim in the industry's most respected publications and his music can be heard on radio and television airwaves worldwide.  His talents continue to evolve and command attention. 

At the age of five, Lao became enchanted by the sounds of a piano, originally purchased for his sister.  After several years of tinkering, Lao's parents finally gave in to their son's pleading for lessons and, at the age of nine, he began his formal training.   The long-awaited lessons flourished as he quickly exhibited his flair for composition and improvisation.  "My parents always encouraged me to pursue my own creativity," said Lao, "I learned early on how to improvise and be musically adventurous."

Lao began his career during his high school years in his hometown of Boulder, Colorado and self-produced and released his first three solo keyboard recordings by the age of seventeen.

Lao Tizer's continuing growth as a composer is brightly refracted in the deep musical prism of his evolving artistry.  Whether he is performing solo or in concert with his extraordinary band, the future promises spectacular accomplishments from this gifted young artist. A diverse path is promised for the novice listener and experience-seeking fan.

Admission includes all musical entertainment. Due to the size of the event, advance ticket orders may cease at any time prior to the event. Children 8 years and under will be admitted free. However, the promoters of this event stress that due to the high volume of people at the event, parents are discouraged from bringing children in strollers on Friday or Saturday night. No refunds for Taste admission tickets or eScrip purchases (although eScrip value can be refunded at the event during event hours only). Due to the nature of reserved section seating, VIP tickets are also not eligible for refunds. Beach chairs, coolers and personal beverages are strictly prohibited at the Taste of Newport. Bags are subject to search. Health code requirements prohibit animals at the event (special assistance animals are permitted). Failure to comply will result in denial of admission to the event.
